Should Landscape Architects be at the forefront of merging sustainable agricultural processes with eco-cities, in a response to progressive attitudes towards environmental sustainability and population rise?

Introduction

Justification of the study

The Landscape Architecture profession has an important role to play in the future of modern societies. Landscape Architects can reinspire spaces while improving ecological value, functionality and aesthetics, based on how they choose to design. The increased rate of gentrification and urbanisation has caused consideration for a realistic action plan for the future of all cities. It is of paramount importance that cities and their inhabitants must become more sustainably conscientious to reduce the effects of climate change by 2050 (to keep out Global Average Temperature (GAT) below 2°C). Landscape architects can be at the forefront of this positive environmental change by preparing cities for a more densely populated future, through the legislation of sustainable design principles.
